Happy Animals, Happy Life: Finding the Right Pet Food

A happy pet is one that has a healthy diet full of the nutrients they need. It should cater to their specific and unique needs, ensuring they live a long and joyous life. Thanks to the abundance of options, the right pet food should be easy to acquire.

However, it will depend on several factors, including medical conditions and allergies. Lifestyle, weight, and age also play roles in choosing the right product and brand. To get the most out of their every meal, it has to suit them completely.

Cats and Dogs

Cat and dog foods are the most common on the market. Their popularity as companions has given rise to seemingly endless options. Owners have access to everything from budget-friendly dry varieties to bank-busting choices that require refrigeration. Check the ingredients on the label and look for terms like “complete and balanced.” This indicates that the recipe includes at least the minimum required nutrients.

With such a massive selection, owners may want to try a few different choices to determine the right diet. Pet foods can target poor organ functions, bad bones, shedding, and nearly every other need under the sun. Be sure to find a variety that caters to the age of the animal-some brands make specially-formulated chow for puppies and kittens, as well as varieties for senior furry friends that require extra care.

For pets with medical conditions, specialized options are available. However, some do require a veterinarian prescription before buying.

Other Animals

Small mammals, reptiles, fish, and other animals may not have the same wide selection, but the quality is still there. A variety of types exist to give all animals access to a healthy and complete diet. Specialized choices are available, as well. Not available in all stores, it is still possible to find ones that focus on specific health needs of these smaller animals.

Emergency Health Needs

Any animal can run into emergency health problems that require quick action. After visiting a veterinarian, a pet shop is a crucial next step. This will make everything they need readily available.

For cats and dogs, the supplies they need are at every shop. The veterinarian may recommend a new mealtime regimen to make digestion easier. Additional accessories like raised bowls or even specialized bowls to help dogs eat more slowly may also be recommended. Furry friends with ailments may also require specialized treats, so consult with a professional before buying new snacks or goodies for the cat or dog.

Every owner should take the time to find the right pet food. No matter the animal or the needs, there are choices and supplies that will do the trick. A nutrient-rich diet can help the pet live a longer life with fewer complications and issues as they age.

Do You Intuitively Know What Your Animal Is Feeling?

Intuition Is Part of Animal Communication.

Intuition often appears as a feeling or knowing or an awareness about something.

Many people receive telepathically from animals in this way, but may not recognize it as true Animal Communication.

Often humans expect and desire to receive communication from animals in words, or even pictures.

But there is no one “right” way to experience Animal Communication.

When first learning to communication telepathically, you will be more successful if you start out where you already are.

In other words, when you receive messages intuitively and accept that, “this is how I receive telepathic information right now,” you will open yourself to receive and expand your telepathic ability with animals from there.

In contrast, if you say, “No, I don’t want to receive telepathically that way. I want to do it another way,” you’re creating a barrier of energy that will block your receptivity to messages from animals.

To strengthen your intuitive receptivity, follow through on your intuitive insights.

This provides a feedback loop that will help you expand your intuitive receptivity.

For example, if you sense your animal may be feeling sad, say something to the animal, such as ‘I’m wondering if you’re feeling sad.”

Watch how your animal responds to your verbal statement. You may notice physical signals that acknowledge your statement, such as a sigh, or closing of the eyes, for example. The response can be many different things, so just notice… notice… notice.

If you sense that there’s something wrong with your animal that requires veterinary help, don’t wait for symptoms. Go to a veterinarian that you trust and have them check out the animal.

You be surprised how this can save the animal’s life. And even if the veterinarian finds nothing wrong, the feedback will help you strengthen your intuitive abilities.

By working with your telepathic abilities at whatever level they are, you will soon find them expanding.

Your animals will appreciate knowing that you’re making an effort to communicate with them in their natural language: telepathic animal communication.

You’ll also find that increased intuitive ability can be a powerful tool in other areas of your life, such as when making decisions about jobs, where to live, or even whether to trust someone.

If intuition is your primary way of receiving animal communication, accept it with joy and work with it. The benefits will be great, and you’ll soon find yourself receiving telepathically from animals in other ways.

How To Accomplish A Stress-Free Removal Of Pets In 2010?

Shifting your house can be a highly demanding and tough process. After all, you have to think about a lot of things while relocating. There are many items you would have to get rid of. You should hire a good removals service provider who appoints honest, hardworking and good movers.

If you have a pet in your home, it can be even more difficult. Your pet will also observe the relocation. Pets can develop a strong bond with its environment and so moving a house can be pretty stressful. Since they are so used to their existing home, a sudden change like this can be tough to get used to. When you plan well in advance, your pets can have a smooth transition in between the two homes. Since it can be a traumatic period for you, it is better to have one less worry at this stage of your life. However, when you follow the following easy tips, your experience of house removals can be hassle-free. In fact, it can even be an enjoyable experience for everyone who is involved in this process.

Get In Touch With A New Vet Near Your Target Location Prior To The Move
You need to ensure that there is a good vet in your new locality. Getting in touch with a new vet in your new neighborhood is as crucial as locating a trustworthy and reputable general practitioner. After all, your pet may even get hysterical initially as it may find it tough to get used to the new surroundings. If you wish to be well-prepared, make sure that your pet is registered with a new vet prior to the relocation process. In case, anything awkward does take place, there would not be any delay for lack of registration.

Get An Essentials Box For Your Pet
It is not an uncommon phenomenon to see your packed boxes getting disorganized and cluttered, especially on the first day after you shift to your new house. When you have a box exclusively for storing your pet’s essentials such as their favorite toys and food, it will ensure that you are better organized and help the pet to settle in a much better way in your new home. You should ensure that this box is properly labeled. Make sure that the box is easily accessible during the shift.

Alter The Details Of Your Pet’s Microchip
Did your pet undergo a microchip implant? If so, you should ensure that you have updated the microchip with your new contact details and address as quickly as possible. It is extremely crucial since your pet may take it in its head to explore the new locality and get lost while you are busy with arranging and unpacking.

Begin Your Packing Early
If you commence panic packing at the last minute, it may come as a big surprise and shock for your pet. You should also try and let them get habituated to the packing exercise by beginning early and not at the last minute. If you follow this, the constant movement of furniture and boxes on the actual moving day will not appear strange and your pet will not be unnecessarily panicked. Your pet should be staying in the company of familiar family members.

Just as you do it with your small kids, you should try keeping the pets in the company of familiar family members rather than letting them stand and watch the shifting progress.

Try To Keep Certain Things Constant In Your Pet’s Life
It is expected that your pet may need a while to get used to the new locality and house. You can actually help them in getting them habituated up their new surroundings. Make sure that certain aspects of its life are constant so that it can have an easy transition. For instance, keep the time for its walking and feeding the sane. Try to arrange its bedding in the same position even in your new home. All these actions are useful in downplaying the change of place.

Animals Love Better Than Humans Do

Can an animal really love better than a person does? What about the way your dog, cat or other pet acts? Do animals have the ability to feel, care for us and have emotions?

Not only animals love us but they have the capacity to have feelings and also express their affection for one another. Although they may convey it in different ways, the aspect of love is pretty obvious when you take a look at them. The bond they create shows evidence that they can experience many of the same emotions humans do.

But so many people are still cruel and insensitive towards animals and greedily destroy their lives or habitat. Yet, most wildlife will usually leave us alone. I am not a people hater, but needless to say, I often prefer the company of animals. And to me, it is a pity that humans do not act more like them.

“There are more dangerous humans on earth than dangerous animals.” – Anthony Douglas WilliamsAnimals Love Better
Animals love you unconditionally no matter what; surely when it comes down to our pets! No matter how you may feel at the moment, your animal is always there for you. Regardless of your physical appearance or mood, they are and will always love you.

So, animals often care more than humans. They have more personality, integrity, empathy, and loyalty than most people I know. And that is what family is really all about, isn’t it? Our pets have no greed, no malice, just love to give. And then we call them the animals.

And yes, for me, it is simply more comfortable to be around animals than to be around people. Let me ask you this: “How many persons in your life caused you to feel disappointment and betrayal? I can recall so many, but I rarely felt that way with an animal. Thus, animals love you in a truer manner.

“If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans.” – James H.Learn Life from Animals
One of the things I like most about animals is how much I learn about life from them every day. You can never know absolutely everything about any single creature on earth. Animals have infinite and immeasurable qualities. They are an endless yet enjoyable miracle of nature. On the other hand, sadly enough, you can know more about some people who you want to, just under a few minutes.

Since early childhood, I love and respect animals. They are never deceitful, insincere, cunning, manipulative, or mischievous unless they are strictly provoked or in the wild. Animals love and too frequently forgive humans for unspeakable treatment. Besides, they would never take up hunting people simply for fun, yet many individuals believe it to be a sport. It is sickening!

And animals have an incredible intuition. They can sense everything about you, from illness to your emotional state and when you are not paying attention. Dogs even know when you lie to them. So, it is no wonder that these incredible creatures are considered our best friends for the past ten thousand years.

The Bond of Eternal Love
The bond you create with animals is unbreakable, which is often not the case with humans. The more time you spend with an animal, the more of a connection is formed and that link keeps growing with time. And this bond you share becomes so rewarding and shows you that animals love better than humans do.

The unconditional affection you experience becomes worthwhile as you understand the animal’s personality, feelings, actions, desire, and motivation. You can even sense whether they are sad, happy, angry or annoyed. If you have a pet, you know that the bonds you create with them are the most unforgettable.

My trust in animals and love for them frequently helps me in my interactions with humans. It is my duty as an animal lover to honor their indestructible affection and express my gratitude to them. They are an important part of the world and they are not made for our pleasure only.

Animals and Humans
Animals deserve our respect and admiration. They are a peaceful company, do not talk incessantly, nor offer unwelcome advice or even worse, tell us what to do. Besides, they do not suddenly have to text someone or get a call while you are out together.

And these wonderful creatures bring us comfort during unhappy times in our lives. It does not matter if you are going through rough periods or are experiencing stressful moments. You know they always bring you joy or a smile. Just knowing animals love you and are always there to welcome you when you come home, making life much easier and happier.

Besides, I am not the only person in rating animals over humans, especially when it comes to showing compassion and rescuing them. A study shows people feel more empathy towards a hurt animal or abandoned puppy than for a grown-up human. Most of us are hard-wired to care more about animals and infants, and wanting to step in.

Animals Love More than You Deserve

“I am in favor of animal rights as well as human rights. That is the way of a whole human being.” – Abraham Lincoln

One of the best feelings you know, if you have an animal, is when you come home. It does not matter if you left for fifteen minutes; your pet is just thrilled to see you home. Your animals are always waiting for you. There is no doubt that their world revolves around you but your world would not be the same without their love.

And so, it has been scientifically proven that animals love and make humans happier and healthier. Knowing that they are always there for you through the good and bad times means so much, doesn’t it?

There is no doubt in my mind that animals love better than humans do. You and I can learn so much from them. Yet, their unconditional love is something we can only try to rival with and emulate. So, be always kind to animals because they love you more than you deserve and more than humans will ever do.

Behind Every Animal’s Eyes Is a Life

So, where is our humanity? Why do so many people not want to wake up to the truth? What pushes us to destroy ourselves? How can we remedy the problem before it is too late?

You and I, as human beings, have the responsibility to protect Earth and all its inhabitants. All animals deserve freedom, respect, dignity, love, empathy, care and life. Believe it or not, the way you eat has a profound effect on your health, the environment and the animals that live on this planet.

The tsunami of diseases which abound is mostly caused by our lifestyle. And the fascinating thing is that the major driving force that creates illnesses is the human dependency on animal nutrition. Yet, behind every animal’s eyes is a life you could not end yourself. Am I right?

“Eating death only makes us tired, age faster and get sick. It is bad karma.” – K.VD.

The Excessive Animal Consumption
In previous centuries, meat was considered a luxury and average citizens never got it. Then, as time passed, people included it in a meal once a week, often on Sundays. But today, most people can afford it which in a way does not help. Despite all the warnings, they are eating more and more meat.

And in today’s life, it is a normal part of most people’s diet because it became a tradition. Yet, it links to heart diseases. And I won’t talk about dairy products. The excessive consumption of animal-based proteins or processed food damages your body and diminishes your blood supply.

As a fact, years of scientific studies and conclusive evidence prove it. On the other hand, plant-based diets cannot only prevent the progression of heart disease or cancer but can also reverse its effects. No matter your age, you can use plant foods as cure or medicine to avoid many problems later on in life.

Behind Every Animal’s Eyes
Obviously, behind every animal’s eyes, there is a heart. Yet, when a person murders an animal, it is often called a sport. But when an animal wants to kill a person, it is called ferocity. Yet, when it really comes down to it, humans are the cruelest species. So, aren’t we contradicting ourselves?

If you want to live a long and healthy life and contribute something to this world, then you have to act. You only pass through this world but once. And if you can do any good thing or show any kindness to any living creature, do it. Do not neglect it because you will not pass that way again.

So, look deep into any animal’s eyes, and then for a moment, trade places. Suddenly, you see their life becomes as precious as yours and you become as vulnerable as them. Now, realize that all animals deserve your respect and your protection, for in a way, they are you, and you are them.

“Animals are my friends and I don’t eat my friends.” – George Bernard Shaw

The Life in an Animal’s Eyes
If you are an animal lover, you probably already know that many animals are extremely intelligent and have emotions. Like humans, countless living creatures develop strong bonds with their young, love them and have friends.

And they even have special calls for the ones they care about, the same way you give your friends and family nicknames.

Yet, most humans only consider animals as food, trophy or objects. Too often, countless people treat them like commodities rather than individuals. So, most of them never get to experience these remarkable bonds. Instead, a lot of human beings expose to a life filled with fear, stress, pain, sadness, and death.

“To my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being. The more helpless the creature the more that it is entitled to protection by man from the cruelty of man.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Animals Are Innocent Souls
An animal’s eyes have the power to speak an amazing language when you take the time to look into them. Remember also that compassion for other innocent living beings is the true judge of character. Animals have as much right as us to be here on this planet since they were created along with us.

And whoever said that they were ours to do whatever we please with? You may be a meat-eater; yet, I am not judging you but only trying to show you facts. So, do not mock vegan people as they are just individuals who have the crazy idea that no animal should suffer.

However, humanity can no longer stand by and watch our beautiful animals be used and abused in so many ways. Look in an animal’s eyes and make a stand, big or small, personal or public. Do it before it is too late. Remember, it takes nothing away to be kind to these gentle souls.

Do You And Your Pet Communicate Well?

By the grace of the Noble and Supreme Almighty, we, the human beings are blessed with a voice box and a tongue, which help us to communicate our feelings to the others when needed.

We are also blessed with the power to hear and respond to each other’s voices. We could conclude that human body is complete in every aspect.

When we talk about animals, we could say that they too have the system of talking and listening but using their languages, which are almost inaccessible to the humans.

In such a case, when you bring home an animal to keep it as a pet, it becomes important that the conversation between you and your pet goes on so that you develop a healthy understanding between you, thereby developing a healthy relationship.

When we talk in this regard, could you tell, what the right way to communicate with a pet is? Or do you use right methods to communicate to your pet?

The answers may be diverse but they conclude on the same note that, it being an animal, needs our maximum love and it will return us whatever we offer it.

Here are some tips on grooming of pets that tell you how to understand their language and in turn develop the bond that you always wanted to have:

Observe The Habits Of Your Pet:

  • The pets give a lot of signals with their ears, eyes, and face. Therefore, observe these to get about what your pet is feeling. It may be angry at something if it stares at the thing continuously, ready to bark. It may stare its master in need of anything such as food or water. These signals occur with almost all the pets, whether it is a cat or a dog or any other pet. If you are ignorant of the fact, it could lead to many troubles.
  • Observe the legs and the tail of your pet. It may use its legs to ask for something or simply seek your attention. It may also use it to rub its body which may be an indication of fleas in its coat or itching problems. The dogs and cats use their tails to indicate that they are in good mood by simply wagging them or they hide their tale between rear legs to indicate they are frightened of something.
  • Observe the postures of your pet, which he uses frequently. For example, if a dog is feeling itchy, it would roll down its body in the dust to clear of the fleas or a cat may lounge on its back either to get a good rest or in a state of anger. It generally depends on pets and their moods that what suits them the best. If you do not observe them, they would themselves find some means to solve their problem which could hurt your scheduled care.

Hear Your Pet’s Sounds:

  • Your pet may be accustomed to a variety of sounds from you, but are limited to a single language as far as their tongue is concerned. Though the words they speak sound similar almost all the times, they may be distinct.
  • Your dog may bark, growl, howl or snarl at times. There are various reasons associated with each sound it utters, such as a loud pitched bark shows that it is aggressive and it also shows that it is communicating something to a well-acquainted person. It may howl at times when it feels lonely or gets physically or mentally hurt.
  • A cat may also use its meow to indicate various reactions such as a low-pitched sound from it may indicate that it is angry or hungry. It is your responsibility to understand the difference amongst these and solve its problem.

Exchange Conversation Notes With Your Pet:

  • Talk to your pet and make him feel the variation of tones in your voice. You could use a stern tone to make it follow your orders or serve some purpose and also use the soft tone to praise it or when offering it food. The pet would understand the difference in the tones and would respond in the same manner.
  • Using of sign languages such as gestures from your hand etc. may also offer a good medium of conversation. These sign languages will help it get the command in an effective manner. You could use hand gestures to make a dog sit or stand or go away and you could also use it for the cat.
  • Do not punish your pet, either with your tone or physically. Using loud words and beating may discourage its morale.

Using the above pet grooming tips, you could understand how to communicate with your pet in an effective manner such that you bear a healthy bond with it.This relationship between you and your pet would not only make it share its problem with but also relieve you when you are murky, since our pets also observe the differences in our behavior every day.

Tips For Breeding Rabbits

The breeding stock should be selected when they reach 4 to 5 months of age. The breeder should be selected from the largest litter. In males, it is very essential to see the presence of two testicles in the scrotum as testicles descend down from the body cavity at 12 weeks of age.

1. Extensive type of reproduction:-

Weaning here practiced is 5 to 6 weeks and re-breeding soon after weaning. Does are therefore mated once every 2.5 months. This is the best suited for tropical countries like India.

2. Semi intensive reproduction

Weaning is practised at 4-5 weeks of age. Breeding is practised after 10-20 days after kindling.

3. Intensive reproduction

Weaning is at 4 weeks of age. Mating is done immediately after kindling. Usually this practise is followed in western countries.

Always females should be put to the pen of male to avoid fighting. Mating should be done during coolest part of the day like early morning or late evening. After successful mating the male usually produces a typical cry sound and falls down on one side of the female. Soon after the mating the male one should be removed from the cage. The male should not be more than 3 to 4 days in a week and not more than 2 to 3 times in a day. The ratio of male to female is 1:10. Both the sexes should reach 70% of their adult body weight.

The breeding season is almost throughout year. But in India, autumn stress is encountered during hot weather.

Signs of heat in females

1. Restlessness, Rubbing the chin on the sides of the cage.

2. Lying in mating posture

3. They are spontaneous ovulators. Ovulation begins 10 hours after mating.

4. In heat, the female rabbit accepts male, otherwise it rejects.

5. In heat, the female assumes a typical pose called “lordosis” where the back is arched downward and hind quarter is raised.

6. The female one in di-estrous phage crouch at the corner of the cage.

7. After kindling (parturition), the re breeding happens after one week in intensive management. But normally re-mating is shown one week before weaning.

8. When temperature rises above 36 degree centigrade, temporary sterility happens.

The Digestible energy (MJ/Kg), Fat%, Crude protein%, Crude fiber% for the breeding stock is 9.2, 3, 15-16 and 13 respectively. The females should be examined for any respiratory diseases prior to mating.

Reaching Out to Animals at Home While You Travel

You wish you could take him with you,

But sometimes they have to stay behind.

It’s really hard to travel when your animal family can’t come along.

The good news is that you don’t have to be completely separated while on vacation or a business trip.

Animal Communication works very well whether you’re sitting with your animal, or whether the two of you are separated by thousands of miles.

The summer vacation season is about to start and your animals may be wondering whether their family will disappear again this year.

Do you tell them your plans for your vacation? How long will you be away?

How will they will spend the time when you’re away?

Who will take care of them?

How soon will you return?

Animals do better mentally, emotionally, and sometimes even physically when they know what the plans are.

Because they love you, they want to know about your trip, too.

Where are you going? What will you do there?

When will you return?

Will you think about me while you’re gone?

Most of our animals know that we need a vacation sometimes, but if they can’t be on the trip with you, they’ll feel more included when you share the details.

And it reassures them to know about the arrangements you’ve made for them while you’re gone.

Setting expectations reduces or eliminates any anxiety or stress they may be feeling.

You can certainly tell them these things yourself, but unless you’ve learned Animal Communication, they might not understand everything and won’t get to ask the questions that concern them most.

Once you’re on the trip, you can still arrange a professional Animal Communication session if you need one.

  • A check-in while you’re on a long trip helps you and your animals feel more connected.
  • If a crisis occurs delaying your return or affecting your animal’s well-being, a professional Animal Communicator can speak with you by phone and talk to your animal(s) telepathically even while you’re still traveling.

One of my clients had a situation arise just recently while she was traveling. My client was on a business trip in the USA and her cat was home in The Netherlands. The cat’s in his teens and has some health issues.

My client left him in excellent care, but a heat wave in The Netherlands affected his overall health situation.

What a relief my client and her cat both felt when I did a session for them allowing them to speak with each other through me.

It reassured and comforted both of them.

So keep in mind that when you travel, connection with your animals is as close as a phone call to an Animal Communicator professional.

Important Things To Consider When Choosing A Pet Bed

Weigh Then Measure Your Pet While Sleeping

First pay attention to how your pet sleeps. If your pet sleeps stretched out, measure them from nose to tail. Add about 8 to 12 inches to determine the size of pet bed you will need. This is to accommodate your full-grown pet, if your pet is still a baby then you will need to add extra space to allow for growing. Also, you can add additional blankets, sheets, or pillows to a larger bed while your pet is still a baby.

If you have a larger, heavier pet the thicker the cushion will need to be. This will help prevent cushion squash, which could be just like your pet sleeping on the bare floor.

Special Needs and Important Features

If your pet is older they may need to have an orthopedic bed to help ease their pain. Orthopedic beds are made of high density memory foam to help conform to your pet’s shape and help offer comfort from sore joints or arthritis.

You many want to choose a heated bed for pets that are prone to being chilly or are short haired or you live in a cold climate.

If your pet likes to feel more secure, then choose a more cave-like bed where they will feel safe. This will be a good idea if your pet likes to hide to go to sleep, or goes under furniture to sleep. There are many shapes and sizes of these special beds.

Look At Washing or Maintenance Instructions First

It is most important to be sure to check if the bed for your pet will be easy to clean. Let’s face it, our pets are not always tidy creatures, so it is much easier and less expensive to purchase a bed that you can just toss into the washer and/or dryer. Beds do need to be cleaned every week or two, to help with odors and dirt. Cleaning can also help with fleas. I found washing pet beds in baking soda and vinegar is the best for removing odors in the wash.

What Style or Color Should You Choose

Look at what best fits your decor in your home. Pet beds have come a long way, and there are as many different styles of pet beds as people furniture. Once you have conquered choosing the right size, then the options are unlimited, you can choose to match your decor for color and style, or go a completely a different route. Make it a fun choice, all of my pets have specific colors and all their bedding is in that color family.

How Much To Spend

An estimated 17.8 Billion (yes, BILLION) dollars will be spent in the year 2018 on various products for pets. We as owners want our pets to have the absolute best of everything, but it is easy to go overboard (as I often do) with purchasing a pet bed. Try to have a budget in mind before looking at pet beds and stick to it. Remember that this will likely not be a one time purchase, since beds will need to be replaced for wear and tear.

Pet Allergy – Diagnosis and Medications

Just as a human can develop allergies, domesticated animals can display adverse health symptoms from exposure to fleas, environmental and dietary allergens. Allergens can be inhaled, ingested or come in contact with a pet’s skin, resulting in a variety of digestive, respiratory or dermic symptoms. Thankfully, there are reliable testing methods available to accurately diagnose and treat allergies in pets. Potential solutions include pet medications and hypoallergenic diets.

Diagnosing Pet Allergies
Allergens and the reactions they cause may differ from animal to animal. Reactions to dietary allergens are uncommon, affecting less than 10% of dogs or cats. Environmental allergens include those that are found indoors, like dust mites and mold spores, and outdoors, like pollen spores and grass. Animals may also be exceptionally sensitive to bites from fleas. Even a small amount of flea saliva can cause widespread irritations on the animal.

Pets can display a number of symptoms that may be indicative of an allergic reaction, including:

• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Sneezing, coughing or wheezing
• Snoring caused by an inflamed throat
• Swollen paws or paw chewing
• Itchy ears or ear infections
• Itchy back or base of the tail

Some of these symptoms, though common allergic reactions, can also be indicative of other health issues. Before a pet is tested for allergies, they should be evaluated by a licensed veterinarian. After the vet has determined that the animal is suffering from allergen exposure, they can administer a sufficient allergy test.

Allergy Medications for Pets
Human medications, such as over-the-counter antihistamines, should never be given to a pet unless specifically prescribed by a licensed veterinarian. These drugs could cause adverse effect animals if they are taken alone or mixed with another medication. Extreme drowsiness, seizures or other symptoms may occur.

Pet medications will be prescribed based on individual symptoms, symptom severity and any preexisting conditions the animal may have. Regarding food allergies, the animal may be placed on a special diet that either limits or removes the reactive ingredient. Medications, like antihistamines, corticosteroids or allergy shots, may be prescribed to manage other allergies. For dermic reactions, topical medications such as shampoos or creams may also be prescribed.

Unfortunately, as of now, there is no cure for pet allergies. However, treatment methods, including pet medications, are available that can successfully manage symptoms and allow the animal to enjoy a better quality of life. A licensed veterinarian can accurately diagnose and appropriately treat pet allergies.
